I had the pleasure of meeting Tim West at the MOPS convention this past weekend. Tim is the creator of Band-Angels, darling custom printed band-aids with scripture verses. Tim says he got the idea when his granddaughter was diagnosed with diabetes and started receiving insulin shots on a regular basis. Band-Angels provide an opportunity for teaching, and the comfort of God's healing word.

"Letters to God" is a new movie coming out April 9, 2010. Inspired by a true story, the movie is about a boy facing cancer and how it affects the lives of those around him. Today I registered for the Penn State library association conference in April and saw that one of my choices for workshops will be a presentation by Family Communications, the Mister Rogers people. The speaker is David M, the old mailman, talking about what they offer schools and small children today. Upon visiting their website, I learned about this neat new iPhone app for children...

The Neighborhood of Make Believe’s Daniel Striped Tiger invites children to “Make a Journal” to help them reflect on and express how they feel in this iphone app now available from itunes. Fred often said “Whatever is mentionable can be more manageable.” With this PBSKids app, kids are encouraged to think about their experiences and helps them find words to express their feelings – for both mentioning and managing.

"We hope these journals can give children a way to express and share their feelings with the adults who care for them. It can be an especially useful tool for children who might be reluctant to talk about their feelings. 'Reading' the journals together can give parents a chance to talk with their children about experiences and feelings at school at play and at home."

Sesame Workshop is getting involved with Google's third-annual Doodle 4 Google competition, as VP of marketing services Karen Driscoll is one of 10 expert jurors on board. The contest invites kindergarten to grade 12 students to design their own Google doodle around the theme "If I Could Do Anything, I Would..."

The top-40 winning regional doodles will be featured in a national exhibit at the Smithsonian's Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York. Meanwhile, the National Winner will have the doodle displayed on Google's homepage for one day. The winner will also take home a US$15,000 college scholarship, US$25,000 grant toward the establishment/improvement of their school computer lab, a trip to Google's New York office for an event on May 26, 2010, a laptop computer, a Wacom digital design tablet and a t-shirt printed with the winning doodle.

Registration closes at 11:59:59 p.m. Pacific Time (PT) on March 17, 2010, and entries are due by March 31, 2010 no later then 11:59:59 P.M. Pacific Time (PT).
